The Telegraph India2012-04-11:                      Solar fence to keep elephants at bay WASIM RAHMAN Jorhat, April 10: The forest department is thinking of installing solar fences in an area along the Brahmaputra, northeast of the town to keep out a wandering herd of elephants — that moves along the river and chaporis (sandbars) — from the villages near the bank. Solar fencing system helps to control animals by giving them a short but safe shock if they touch the fences. Low-voltage current obtained from solar energy passes through these fences.
